Not Dead; Just Resting

Okay, it has been (time-wise) a country mile, since I've posted anything on a regular basis. What can I say, life sucks!? That, and setbacks. First was the unfinished mini-gun arm for one of the previous batch of CASE-2X Dogs.

Second being the missile pod mounts. The problem was the cast metal pods drooped.

Can't have one's missile pods drooping so, after much procrastination, I came up with another way of mounting them with magnets, which involved order some more parts too. I need to add Milliput to fare the pods to the magnets to finish them, but the end is in sight.

Hence the delay in getting around to doing the work. I've also started a couple more combat armour Ape suits conversions.

And, there's more to come. Ive been beavering away, and have a bunch of stuff I need to take glamour shots of. This includes some NAC laser towers and turrets, the finished Russian quad mechs with decals, and more.

So, watch this blog. Catch you all on the bounce.

  1. Good to see a post from you, and can't wait to see your Ogre laser minis! I understand about lacking the urge to post--I have not been as inspired in recent years, but I'm trying to put something up at least once a month.

    1. Yeah, I feel ya. It's a combination of age, a bout of shingles, and the general burning down of the world around me. It is what it is. I'll try and post the laser towers next.

  2. Just when my interest in the old RAFM Gears starts to wane, you always inspire me with your projects! I really need to get cracking with these. maybe one day you could provide a modelling overview with your thoughts on materials, options for extra bits and magnet sizes. That would be super useful!

More importantly though, its nice to see you posting and in your happy place :-)

    1. Glad I can be a beacon of light for the old RAFM Gears, which are lovely; even if the quality control can be lacking. If you keep reminding me, I'll do a big modeling post about magnets and conversions, because I do have thoughts.

Thoughts that might even be helpful to others. As for my happy place, just playing a couple of games this year has really pulled me out of the hole I hide in.

  3. It's good to see a new post. Sorry you've been through the mill with shingles. It's impressive the amount of effort you put into each figure - making them uniquely yours.
How's your writing muse - any progress on another Gate novel? I enjoy rereading these. The first in the series is my favourite what do others put first? Do you have a novel you're proudest of?
    All the best as always,
    Stephen

    1. Thank you. I think Bad Dog is everybody's favourite, but technically, Ghost Dog is better. If only because I learnt so much from writing the first two.

I've just finished my next novel, The Bureau, which I intend to send to my Alpha reader's in due course.

I've started a new draft of the next Gate Walker novel, and we'll have to see how it goes. This is either the fourth or fifth attempt to finish a draft that I'm happy with.

The obstacle being me. I'll own that, life has beaten me down. Especially, because I still haven't broken even on the costs from publishing the first three novels. It is what it is.

  4. You seem busy for someone who is resting. Embrace the suck. Its the new normal. Or so I am told.

    1. I've embraced the suck so much that I've drowned in it. But, life goes on.

  5. Very nicely done! I really like what you do with converting the various weapons and gubbins to make them your own. What was the basis for the corrugated weapon pod out of curiosity?

  6. Dear Ashley, I'm sorry that life has been cruel. I hope a corner is turned soon. I wish you well. Stephen.
